The Mukim Liang, Bukit Sawat, Labi, Sukang and Melilas Consultative Council as well as the Brunei Methanol Company, BMC with the cooperation of of the Belait District Office and the Community Development Department Belait District branch, organised the Family Day celebration yesterday morning. The function took place at the Kampung Sungai Mau Recreational Park in Kuala Belait.

In attendance were Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and wife. The event began with the Family Cycling led by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Apart from the cyclingthon, a family sale, the One Village One Product sale and various attractive family-friendly activities were also held including tug of war and ambuyat making event. The river festival also enlivened the family day celebration. According to the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, family institution play an important role and should be strengthened for the nation's development.

The celebration provides the opportunity for village residents in the rural areas to get together and strengthen family relations. It also gave small and medium entrepreneurs the opportunity to do business apart. Also present was Yang Berhormat Awang Hanapi bin Mohd. Siput, Member of the Legislative Council as Village Chief of Kampung Labi.
