The newly-appointed Commissioner of Police, Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Mohd Shah Al-Islam said he would continue the work of the former police commissioners in ensuring road safety.
He told the Bulletin this on the sidelines of the Road Reminder Campaign and distribution of Driver Safety Practice System (SiKAP) guidebook and tyre thread gauge at the Jerudong petrol station yesterday.
Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohd Jammy, who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Brunei National Road Safety Council, urged drivers to adhere to road rules and regulations, not to speed, not to modify their cars, to check their tyres regularly and to always wear the safety belt.
"Youths are the assets of the nation and it is a liability if we lost them," he said.
The campaign is ongoing throughout the year including during the festive season like the upcoming Hari Raya.
It is a coordinated effort by the Brunei National Road Safety Council led by the Ministry of Communications where the Royal Brunei Police Force is a member in the committee. The committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, the police commissioner added.
The Brunei National Road Safety Council said the campaign is to create awareness to road users to be considerate and abide to traffic rules. The campaign is held simultaneously in all the four districts.
