Sovereign's Parade for 17th Intake

During the morning's Sovereign's Parade, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam commissioned 57 Officer Cadets from the 17th Intake of the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces as Military Officers. His Majesty also awarded the Sword of Honour and other awards to the Best Officer Cadets in each field.
Upon arrival at the Defence Academy Parade Ground, RBAF, in Tanah Jambu, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi Bin Haji Md Yussof, Second Minister of Defence and Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the RBAF.
Also in attendance was His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Captain (Udara) Pengiran Muda 'Abdul Mateen.
Shortly after arrival, His Majesty received the Royal Salute and inspected the static Guard of Honour mounted by 40 male Officer Cadets and 17 female Officer Cadets.
The Sovereign's Parade is the climax of the military training. It is a nark of achievement for all Offcier Cadets after successfully going through the intensive military training challenges with full dedication and commitment. They include 2 In-service intake of Officer Cadets and 2 'Professionally Qualified Officer (PQOs) Officer Cadets who have completed their 3-month training.
The RBAF as the country main pillar of defence always strives to improve and update its capabilities not only in the form of equipment, but more importantly in the level of skills, capability, professionalism and leadership quality. The Sovereign's Parade is proof of those efforts.
His Majesty then commissioned the Officer Cadets of the 17th Intake.
His Majesty awarded the Sword of Honour to Officer Cadet Muhammad Hidayatullah Sunazul Fikar bin Suip. The award bestowed by His Majesty is the highest honour for an Officer Cadet with the highest achievement in all aspects. The Officer Cadet is holder of the Al-Quran Memorising Special Degree and a Bachelor Degree in Takhassus Al-Quran and Al-Qiraat from UNISSA and Egypt's Ma'ahad Qiraat of Al-Azhar University and is appointed as the Head of 6th Platoon, B Company, the Second Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Force.
Meanwhile, Officer Cadet Mohammad Syafi'ie bin Othman has been selected as the recipient of the Best Academic Award. The holder of a Bachleor degree in Geo-Science from Universiti Brunei Darussalam is appointed as Trainee Officer on the KD Brunei, Darulaman of the Royal Brunei Navy.
Officer Cadet Muhammad Hamizan bin Haji Zaini was selected as the recipient of the Best Military Skills Award, based on his high overall achievement in all military skills subjects. The holder of a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Imperial College London has been appointed as Trainee Officer on KD Brunei, Brunei Darulehsan of the Royal Brunei Navy.
Officer Cadet Mohd Zulhaffiz Zarriq bin Ranee has been selected as the recipient of the Best in Physical Training Award. Holder of the Higher National Diploma in Computing, Laksamana College of Business is appointed as Analysis Officer C41 at the Defence Information Technology Unit of the Ministry of Defence.
Doa selamat was read by Comander Haji Ainolnizam bin Haji Ibrahim, Head of the RBAF Religious Department.
From the Parade Ground, His Majesty proceeded to the Ceremonial Hall of the RBAF Defence Academy for a luncheon. At the ceremony, the Monarch received a Pasambah in the form of a torch symbolising the inspirational source of the 17th intake of Officer Cadets in achieving excellent performance in every endeavour carried out with sincerity.
Also presented to His Majesty was the Book of the 17th Intake Officer Cadets' Journey that describes their experiences throughout the training.
His Majesty then received 'junjung ziarah' or greetings from the officers and instructors of the cadet Offciers School, Defence Academy RBAF. During today's Sovereign's Parade, 34 Officer Cadets were Commissioned as Royal Brunei Land Force Officers, 10 as Officers of the Royal Brunei Navy and 13 as officers of the Royal Brunei Air Force. It is hoped the Officer Cadets would prepare themselves to be more efficient and committed in performing and implementing the duties entrusted upon them.
The completion of the Officer Cadets training increases the number of young leaders who will contribute to the continuance of the RBAF leadership. It is His Majesty's hope that all Officer Cadets would young successors of the RBAF leadership who are efficient, wise and professional in carrying out the great trust as the leaders of the country's Defence and Security Institution.
The supportive parents and families are also proud of the success of the Officer Cadets in serving the country and people. The role and encouragement of the parents, guardians and family members also provide continuing motivation to them. Before leaving, His Majesty also signed a parchment.
His Majesty's presence reflects His Majesty great attention and care towards the development and achievement of the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, RBAF.
