His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan of Darussalam, and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, graced a get-together marking the Chinese New Year. The function, which took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, was hosted by the Chinese Community in the country.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty were greeted by Yang Berhormat Awang Ong Tiong Oh, Member of the Legislative Council, and Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin. Also present were:
- His Royal Highness Prince'Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi'atul Adawiyyah;
- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;
- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah;
- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah;
- Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah;
- Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; and
- Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In their pledge of loyalty, the Chinese Community expressed their commitment to continue uphold the Malay Islamic Monarchy concept, enhance the nation's development as well as prosperity, apart from respecting the country's law. The reading of the pledge was led by Awang Soon Seng Lee.
Various cultural performances, including singing, dances and wushu performance were presented by students from Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The cultural dance performances reflected the cultural interaction and harmony within a multi-cultural society in the country. It is hoped that this long-established relationship will continue to be instilled and remain within the future generation.
The joyful and harmonious atmosphere portrayed the society's peaceful life in Brunei Darussalam under His Majesty's leadership.
For the Chinese Community, this long-awaited ceremony acted as a golden opportunity for them to meet and junjung ziarah towards His Majesty.
The Chinese community is the second largest after the Malay community in the country. The government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam appreciates the Chinese community's contribution towards the country's economic growth through business and trade, as well as their efforts in carrying out their social responsibility towards the society's welfare and well-being. Apart from that, the Chinese community also play a role in together creating peace and harmony in the country.
