22nd Annual Leaders Consultation between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday morning attended the 22nd Annual Leaders Consultation between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.   The consultation took place at Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur.

 

Accompanying His Majesty from the hotel to the Prime Minister's Office, Putrajaya was Yang Berhormat Dato' Seri Mohamed Azmin bin Ali, Minister of Economic Affairs of Malaysia as the Minister-in-Attendance.

 

Upon arrival at the Prime Minister's Office, His Majesty was welcomed by Yang Amat Berhormat Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

 

First, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam proceeded to the Prime Minister's Room to attend a Four-Eye meeting with Yang Amat Berhormat the Prime Minister of Malaysia. During the Meeting, His Majesty and His Excellency exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international matters of mutual concern.

 

Following the Four-Eye Meeting, His Majesty, together with His Excellency, proceeded to the Multi-purpose Hall to witness the Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Malaysia on Movement of Prisoners.  Signing on behalf of  His Majesty's Government was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; while the Malaysian Government was represented by Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin bin Mohd Yassin, Minister of Home Affairs.  The Leaders welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding relating to the transfer, escorting and movement of prisoners from areas between Sabah and Sarawak via Brunei Darussalam and the movement of prisoners within Brunei Darussalam via Sarawak. Both Leaders agreed that the Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the transfer of prisoners between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam without compromising the security and safety of the prisoners as well as the public.

 

At noon, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam proceeded to the Protocol Hall, Seri Perdana Complex for a Luncheon hosted by Yang Amat Berhormat Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Datin Dr. Siti Hasmah binti Mohd. Ali.  The annual consultation between the two leaders has been held since 1997 with the aim of expanding cooperation in various areas such economy, education, defence, tourism, culture, sports and health.  The hosting of the consultation is conducted on a rotational basic and the 21st Annual Consultation was held on 23rd of November 2017 in Brunei Darussalam.  The Leaders agreed to hold the 23rd Annual Leaders' Consultation in Brunei Darussalam next year.
