The development of basic construction and public welfare is should be prioritised before focusing on the 4th Industrial Revolution. These issues and the use of suitable technology for the country's requirement, need to be think of so that the country's resources are used strategically, prudently and with focus. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md Hussein, the Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry stressed the matter to answer a question raised by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit on the development of 4th Industrial Revolution in Brunei Darussalam.
According to the Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry, research has been conducted by the ASEAN in 2018 titled 'Assessment of ASEAN Readiness for the Fourth Industrial Revolution'. Based on the research, Brunei Darussalam is a high potential country because of its high human modal score with an increase number of students at higher level education including in the field of science and engineering. However, focus needs to be given on the formation of other aspects which is the foundation to the next development. The provision of new technology also depends on high capital and based on types of technology. It also needs a high expenses and investment. Aside from that, we need to assimilate anything that can bring benefits to the country, while leaving whatever that contribute less to the country's development.
In addition, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, the Minister of Transport and Info-communications explained that the provision of the country's infrastructure is in line with the world's development with a number of progress has been achieved.
Among the achievements of mobile penetration to a higher level, the number of smartphone user or smart devices are estimated at about 90 per cent in the country from the overall number of mobile users. Broadband penetration and Mobile Broadband penetration are at 115 per cent, 4G Long Term Evolution, LTE devices are at 90 per cent of the country's residents and Fixed broadband penetration is about 50 per cent of the number of households and business premises.
