Local volunteer group Hunger Movement together with their strategic partners JCI Tg Aru, JCI Luyang, Harrington Suites by Interland Properties Sdn Bhd and Lions Club Lintas will be organising a beach cleaning event at Tanjung Lipat Anjung Selera.
It is not merely a beach cleaning but also to promote civil awareness on ocean conservation and environmental protection.
Hunger Movement had earlier made a courtesy call at the Mayors office, the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and took the opportunity to share the groups vision and mission with Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.
During the call, Mayor Yeo expressed his full support for the coming beach cleaning campaign. He also stressed that DBKK is paying full attention on the environmental issue and a series of enforcement measures have been carried out.
“With more awareness programs like that organized by the Hunger Movement, together with government bodies and the people of the city, we will make Kota Kinabalu a better, cleaner and healthier city to live in,” he said.
DBKK will also be sending their garbage truck on that day to collect the rubbish. In conjunction with the environmental awareness campaign nationwide, volunteers will separate the rubbish into different categories such as plastic, paper, perishables and others including bottles, fabric, leather, electronics and metal.
The said beach cleaning event will be held tentatively on June 26 (Sunday), at 6.30 am at Tanjung Lipat Anjung Selera.
The organizing party will not be responsible for any personal safety and injury. Volunteers are reminded to equip themselves with the following items: hand gloves, rubber boots or shoes, shovel, raincoat, hat, water bottle, sunglasses and sunblock.
Say No to Shark Fin Soup project, coral planting program and environmental awareness program are also JCI Tanjung Aru, JCI Luyang and Lions Club Lintas’ flagship project respectively. Members of the public are called to support these programs to protect mother earth, which is an obligation for all.
