This twitcher is saving lives of the human kind and avian.
They erected a bird box just behind a hedge and disguised it as a speed camera.
With its distinct bright colours and placement next to the road in Kilkhampton, Devon, it looks pretty realistic and is actually slowing motorists down.
Nobody has owned up to putting the fake camera up yet, however there may be a clue int he fact that it is next to a sign for Paul Sofield Carpenter and it appears to be made out of wood.
The camera has received a lot of support from people who drive through the village on the A39.
The bird box-cum-speed deterrent has little holes where you would normally find the lens along with another five holes and perches for birds to get in and out.
Tara Coshall who spotted the ‘device’ said: ‘As I was driving through Kilkhampton on my to Bude I came across a new speed camera or so I thought. On a closer look it’s really a bird box.’
Apparently the bird box has been at the road side for a couple of years and it worked at slowing people down.
Another motorist said: ‘It’s actually more effective than the speed sign further down the road that warns the car behind the one speeding through the village, obviously the sensor needs adjustment.’
Another said: ‘Great idea, and looking after our wildlife.’
