FLORIDA

An 11-foot alligator smashed an apartment window with its snout, then wandered in and helped itself to the owner’s wine.

The enormous reptile broke into the house in Clearwater, Florida, in the early hours of Friday morning after forcing its way though a low window.

It woke the homeowner up around 3am, prompting her to come downstairs to see what was going on, only to find herself confronted by the toothy creature.

She told Fox13 that the gator got into a stash of wine, destroyed her kitchen table, and damaged her walls.

Thankfully, the woman was not injured, and does not own any pets, so the alligator went without a live meal.

Afterwards, the woman called out a trapper who captured the gator and relocated it.

Clearwater Police Department shared photos of the unusual visitor, and said: ‘See you later, alligator.

‘A scaly 11-foot-long gator broke into a Clearwater home overnight through some low windows in their kitchen.

‘Clearwater Police officers and a trapper responded to the scene to capture and remove the gator. There were no injuries.’

Experts say the safest way to avoid harm if you unexpectedly encounter an alligator is to keep your distance.

Jack Hanna from Columbus Zoo in Ohio says to stay at least 40 to 50 feet back, and warns gators can easily outrun a human within 20 feet of it.

If the worst comes to the worst and it is impossible to escape, experts say hitting the reptile or poking its eyes gives you the best chance of survival.
