BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Magistrate's Court yesterday ordered a drug offender to appear in court and to serve an immediate prison sentence for failing to settle a fine imposed in March.

The thirty-five-year-old defendant, Marawidi bin Effendi, was arrested with 10 others when officers from the Narcotics Control Bureau raided a restaurant in Rimba on April 10, 2013.

"Following a body search, Marawidi was found to be in possession of three clear plastic packets containing crystalline substances," said NCB Prosecutor Maherah.

The three clear plastic packets were later examined by the Department of Scientific Services, which determined that they contained 0.1221 grammes of methamphetamine.

Marawidi pleaded guilty and was fined B$2,300 for one charge of drug consumption and one charge of possessing Syabu on March 9, this year.

Magistrate Pengiran Shahyzul bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman ordered Marawidi to immediately serve five months' imprisonment after failing to settle the fine within a three-month grace period.
