You know when your pet cat goes out and brings you back a ‘present’ – usually a dead bird or mouse.

Well this is a little like that, except you know, with drugs.

Police in Mississippi are investigating after they say a family’s dog brought home a large bag of marijuana.

Probably not the kind of fetch pet owners are used to.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that narcotics deputies were dispatched to a home on Saturday.

The home-owner told deputies his dog came home with a bag he initially thought was rubbish.

After taking a look in the bag, the home-owner discovered ‘a leafy substance that smelled like marijuana’.

Authorities say they recovered about a pound of weed.

It is not yet known where the dog got retrieved the bag from.
