To help Macedonia tackle the migrant crisis, 40 Czech police on Monday left for the country to patrol its green border with Greece, said Petr Petrik, Czech deputy police president in charge of financial affairs.

The mission of the 40 Czech police officers will last until Aug.  1, 2016. Their tasks will be assigned by the Macedonian authorities.

The main task of Czech police officers will be guarding the green border against the arrival of illegal migrants. They are also in charge of keeping order in the migrant camps. The Czech police will serve in Macedonia in form of mixed partrols, two Czech police officers serve along with one Macedonian.

The Czech police will mainly serve near the town of Gevgelija, close to the Macedonia-Greece border. Petrik said the Czech police officers are mainly members of regular police units, they have standard equipment and need not to undergo any special training.

Previously, the Czech police were in Macedonia six weeks ago. According to Petrik, this is the ninth foreign mission of the Czech police within the help during the migrant crisis. Czech has sent police officers to assist Greece, Slovenia and Hungary over the migrant crisis since the end of 2015.
