9th Convocation Festival Of UNISSA

​His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office officiated the opening of 9th Mahrajan Hafl Takharruj or Convocation Festival of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA yesterday morning. Apart from to fete students who completed their studies at UNISSA every year, the festival is also to elevate UNISSA students as the main pillar of Islamic Education institution in the country.

 

Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, His Royal Highness who is also the Pro-chancellor of UNISSA was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education as Chairman of the UNISSA Council; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang  Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Deputy Chairman of UNISSA Council and Doctor Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, the Rector of UNISSA as the Chairman of the festival's Executive Committee.

 

Th function began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and 'Doa led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.

 

His Royal Highness then launched the 9th Convocation Festival of UNISSA. The theme of the convocation festival is "Memasyarakatkan Universiti" or Socialising the University. Its goal is to highlight the contributions of UNISSA students towards realising Wawasan Brunei 2035.

 

The exhibition showcases the various programmes of UNISSA students as well as their role and contributions to the country's communities through academic, co-curriculum and social activities. 

 

The exhibits include the photograph of 4 Bachelor degree programme students who will receive the University medal for achieving First Class Honours in various fields.

 

The University-Community Synergy Exhibition showcases UNISSA's effort the achieve excellence and fulfil its vision to become the Hub of Islamic Higher Education in Southeast Asia. UNISSA is committed to contribute towards the development of Khaira Ummah or Best Ummah by serving the community.

 

Th exhibition also showcases UNISSA students' contributions to society in diverse social activities through the Social Welfare Initiative. The UNISSA supported project presents programmes such as the Charity Bazaar, Ziarah Mahabah or friendly visits, Hospital Da'wah, Raya Clothes Charity Project and Ramadan Food Drive.

 

The university's uniformed groups also participate in the exhibition. They include Army, Royal Brunei Police as well as Fire and Rescue cadets and the Scout Association's team. The Cooking and Catering, Pastry and Sewing workshop provides the students with a variety of special skills for facing the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution era.

 

His Royal Highness then signed a commemorative parchment in conjunction with His Royal Highness visit to the convocation festival.

 

His Royal Highness also launched 27 new books, a journal and monograph of various topics published by UNISSA.

 

The new UNISSA publications were written by its local and foreign academic workforce. Of the 27 publications, 8 are in Malay, 4 in English and 5 in Arabic. The rest comprise of 9 journals and one Monograph. His Royal Highness then received a pesambah in the form of new books published by UNISSA.

 

His Royal Highness proceeded to view the Islamic Education Applications Project which include Islamic Daily Doa; Kids Academy; I-Learning and Arabic and Quran Quiz applications. The convocation festival also showcases applications to enhance Ibadat or religious acts such as praying, Haj and Umrah using the latest technology.

 

His Royal Highness watched a video on the country's support towards ASEAN in developing the ASEAN Community today and in the future. The five tenets of Islam, Azan or Prayer call and reminder of the "five matters before the opposite five arrive" are also showcased.

 

His Royal Highness then viewed the UNISSA students Entrepreneurship exhibition. There is also an exhibition on the Greatness of the Holy Land. His Royal Highness then signed a UNISSA commemorative parchment and received a pesambah in the form of KHAT or Jawi calligraphy.

 

The 9th Convocation of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA will be held on Thursday.  Several competitions and academic sessions have been arranged including Leader and Family Understanding workshops as well Community Service Forum.
