Argentine President Mauricio Macri congratulated soccer player Lionel Messi for his goal during Tuesday's match against the United States and also for becoming the top goalscorer in the history of Argentina's national team.

"Messi's goal from a free kick was tremendous, out of this world. Congratulations to the top goalscorer in our history!" wrote Macri on his official Twitter account in reference to the forwards participation in the 2016 Centennial Copa America which is being held in the United States.

Argentina hammered the United States 4-0 in the semi-final match. During the match, Messi scored a spectacular goal from a free kick. The match was played in the U.S. city of Houston in the southern state of Texas.

Forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, who plays for China's Hebei Fortune, scored one goal, but fractured his left elbow. Gonzalo Higuain scored the other two goals.

Argentina will face the winner of Wednesday's match between Chile and Colombia in the final on Sunday June 26. Both teams are coached by Argentinians, Juan Antonio Pizzi and Jose Pekerman, respectively.

During the last Copa America tournament in 2015, Chile became champions for the first time after defeating Argentina in penalties after drawing 0-0 after extra time.
