No, Nando’s Is Not Closing Its UK Restaurants Now We’re Leaving The EU

WE NEED TO KNOW. (Picture: metro.co.uk)

On to the next important issue of the day: How will the EU referendum affect our access to delicious chicken?

For some strange reason, today’s EU referendum results have spurred the start of rumours that Nando’s is closing down all its restaurants across the UK in response to Brexit.

This was partly down to a blog post, that declared: ‘Panic has set in across Britain after the popular Portuguese restaurant chain announced it will close every restaurant with immediate effect Friday morning if Britain votes to leave the E.U.’

The writer claimed that a spokesperson had said that Nando’s chickens are imported from all over Europe, explaining that if the UK leaves, ‘every individual chicken we import will have to have its own passport and a visa. It simply cannot be done.’

Which – of course – caused absolute outrage and distress come Friday morning.

But DON’T PANIC.

We called up Nando’s to ask what the heck was going on. They confirmed that news that they plan to close all their restaurants is totally fabricated.

Nando’s told metro.co.uk: ‘No need to worry, Nando’s is here to stay. There is no truth in any rumours suggesting otherwise.’

So, Nando’s will not be closing all its UK stores following the EU referendum results.

Yes, you will still be able to get your hand-os on Nando’s. Everything is okay. Breathe.

The man behind the blog post – which was a total parody, if you haven’t figured that out yet – is Chris Hewitt, who told metro.co.uk: ‘I try to time my blogs with whatever’s happening in Manchester and people seem to believe them.

‘I wanted to do something for the EU and thought about somewhere people would really miss. Nando’s seemed obvious so I went with them.

‘The names i just throw together in the hope people realise as they read the blogs that it’s all made up. You’d be amazed how many people don’t.’

True that.
