PETALING JAYA

Like many other Malaysians, Ahmad Shahimie Ahmad Adli will be on the road this Hari Raya.

However, instead of heading home, the PLUSRonda personnel will be patrolling the highway 24 hours daily with his colleagues.

"My buddies and I will be celebrating Aidilfitri on the mainline. We are tasked with the patrol to ensure that highway users enjoy safer and more convenient travel during this period," he said.

He is among the over 2,300 staff at PLUS Expressways Sdn Bhd (PLUS) who have been deployed for the balik kampung rush to ensure everyone arrives safely home for the celebration.

Rosmawati Omar, who will be manning one of the booths at the Subang Toll plaza, said she would be celebrating this Hari Raya with her colleagues.

"It's a special occasion where we are allowed to wear our traditional baju raya to set the mood.

"Even though we could be with our families back home, celebrating Raya with friends at the toll plaza is not bad at all," she said.

Another PLUS staff, Mohd Haffez Sulaiman, will be keeping his eyes on the busy highway this holiday at its traffic monitoring centre.

"I will be celebrating Hari Raya with the thousands of highway users, monitoring the traffic flow," he said, urging motorists to drive safely.

As the main highway running the entire length of Peninsular Malaysia, PLUS will be seeing some 1.6mil vehicles during this period.

For city folks, some 3,110 staff will be working to ensure that there are enough bus and monorail and LRT train services, even during the holidays.

Head of Group Communications and Strategic Marketing, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Lim Jin Aun said besides the 1,060 staff overseeing the operations of LRT and monorail services, there would be another 50 from its contracting partners working on the migration of the signalling system for the Sri Petaling and Ampang Lines.

The Sri Petaling and Ampang Lines will be temporarily suspended on the second and third day of Hari Raya and on July 16.

"The Kelana Jaya LRT and KL monorail services will be operating with a slightly longer waiting time of between seven minutes and 10 minutes," he said.

For the Rapid bus service, some 2,000 bus captains, traffic coordinators, and support staff, he said, would continue to provide public transport to commuters in Klang Valley, Penang, Kamunting and Kuantan.
