Temburong Bridge To Open To Public On 17 March

The Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy explained further on the temporary use of the Brunei-Muara to Temburong District Bridge in tackling the current COVID-19 situation.

 

The National Committee for 'Jambatan Penghubung Daerah Brunei Muara dan Daerah Temburong' Project which is chaired by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohamad Amin Liew informed that physical works of the bridge has been completed and handed over to the Ministry of Development, namely the Public Works Department for management and maintenance starting Monday, 9 March 2020. CCTV and electric cables installation works are currently ongoing and are expected to be completed by end of April. The construction of the operation centre in Jalan Kota Batu is also currently ongoing. Meanwhile the ongoing road expansion works at Jalan Kota Batu is expected to be completed by end of April 2020. The Temburong Bridge Management Committee which was jointly-chaired by the Minister of Development and Minister of Transport and Infocommunications has agreed for the bridge to be opened to the public in consideration of the following:

 

The bridge will be open daily starting today, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 from 6 in the morning to 10 in the evening.

 

The Bridge Maintenance Office comprising personnel of the Ministry of Development and Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications will be operating and delegated to control and ensure safety aspects and wellbeing of users.

 

A patrol team has been prepared to control traffic during its operation. Only vehicles with Brunei Darussalam registration Classes 1, 3, 4 and 6 are permitted to use the bridge. However, Commercial vehicles registered in Brunei Darussalam under Class 5 can submit their application to the Bridge Maintenance Office.

 

For any emergency, contact the Operational Centre through Talian Darussalam 123. Bridge users are required to abide by the maximum speed of 80 kilometre per hour for normal vehicles, while commercial vehicles registered in Brunei Darussalam are to abide the maximum speed of 65 kilometres per hour. Foreign commercial vehicles are advised to use the designated route as permitted by the ASEAN Highway 150 or AH 150.

 

The Royal Brunei Police Force will assist in ensuring the traffic safety of all users. The authorities will continue to patrol the bridge and will close the bridge at any time deemed suitable if the weather does not permit or other conditions. The use of bicycles is also not permitted on the bridge. Public cooperation is highly sought to ensure the safety and wellbeing of users.
