Asia Development Bank Country Director to Laos, Ms Sandra Nicoll, on July 11 paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith to bid farewell on the occasion of the end of her diplomatic mission in the Lao PDR.
At the amicable talks, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith praised ADB Country Director Sandra Nicoll for her diplomatic contribution to enhancing the cooperation between Laos and the Asian Development Bank through its provision of support and assistance to the Lao PDR.
Mr Thongloun Sisoulith also wished Ms Sandra Nicoll a safe trip home and success in her new task.
She expressed gratitude to Mr Thongloun Sisolith and Lao officials at all levels for providing her the support and cooperation she needed to fulfil her diplomatic duty in Laos over the past years.
ADB plays an important role in the socio-economic development in the Lao PDR.
The ADB program in Lao PDR has provided loans, grants and technical assistance to grow the country's economy and improve the lives of its people, particularly the poor, women, children and other vulnerable groups.
ADB is one of the Lao PDR’s largest multilateral financiers, providing US$1.94 billion in loans since 1966.
Since starting operations in the Lao PDR, ADB has responded to the country’s changing development priorities—from an early emphasis on agriculture in the 1980s, to roads and transportation in the 1990s, and to education, energy, and regional integration in the 2000s. ADB’s assistance to the Lao PDR is consistent with the rapidly evolving development needs of a lower-middle-income country.
