LAOS

The Prime Minister’s Office issued notice No 955/PMO.S dated Jul 8 2016 urging the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to work with relevant sectors to re-inspect partly sawn timber and peeled timber abandoned at factories for possible export approval.

The government has asked the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to re-inspect the codes of the sawn timber according to Order No 15/PM to create favourable conditions for timber processing factories that comply with established standards.

The two ministries are also required to play a central role in the inspection and registering of timber abandoned in factories across the country and report to the government so that a legal timber bidding process can be organised.

The Prime Minister’s Order No 15 was issued on May 13, 2016 and prohibits the export of any type of non-processed wood.
