Mcdonald’s Burglars Desperate For Big Macs Leave With Nothing But Charity Sweets

McDonald’s burglars desperate for Big Macs leave with nothing but charity sweets

A pair of burger burglars left with nothing but a box of sweets after raiding a McDonald’s that had been closed because of the lockdown.

They were caught on camera breaking through the drive-thru window into the restaurant, but all food and cash had been removed from the premises.

As a result, they had to take all they could find – a box of charity sweets. Ron Mounsey, manager of the branch in Coryton, Cardiff, said he emptied his restaurant before closing.

He said: ‘Because we’re not open 24 hours a day like some other franchises we never really have much trouble, we’ve never had anything like this before. We closed over two weeks ago due to government advice and the store has been empty ever since.

‘We took everything out of the restaurant when we left and obviously don’t know when we will be back. I think the charity sweets were about the only thing left in there.

‘Obviously these thieves thought they’d be able to get away with a bit more than just some sweets. They were probably hoping for some money in the till.

‘The alarms went off and the police were called, there was damage to the window but we’re fortunate that nothing else was taken.’

The sweets are usually sold by the store for the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charity based at the University Hospital of Wales.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: ‘McDonald’s at Coryton was broken into during the early hours of April 3.

‘A drive-thru window was smashed and box of sweets was stolen. There have been no arrests.’
