BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

Faiz Farhan Kamat of Najip I-Team produced a looping header four minutes from time to salvage a last-gasp equaliser in a 1-1 draw against MS PDB in the DST Super League at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

Najip I-Team wasted no time to conjure the first clear-cut opportunity of the game after Reniel Ruani produed a delicate free-kick into the middle of the pitch allowing a team-mate to flick into the box putting the defenders out of sight.

With defenders cautiously staying on their feet conscious that a wrong move could result in a penalty, Faiz Farhan was left alone in a clear path with MS PDB shot-stopper Pengiran Mohd Muizzuddin Pengiran Ismail but was wonderfully denied by a smart save.

MS PDB's Zakeus Anak Sinchun produced an ambitious shot from distance but was never going to trouble Najip I-Team custodian Ron Junior Philip.

As MS PDB broke loose as a consequence of sloppy defending in the part of Najip I Team, Mohd Amirul Muhd Rasyid instantly knew he was in deep trouble and had no choice but to drag the opposing player who stole possession off him down.

It was perhaps an act of leniency on the part of the referee after opting not to produce the yellow card to Mohd Amirul after the Najip player expressed his annoyance by slamming the ball to the ground.

Faiz Farhan barnstorming run allowed him an extra yard at the box but his resulting shot was blocked by the solid police's defence and his close control after retrieving the loose ball nearly sent him through.

However, concerning an individual battle, Mohd Amirul did impress in the right back role putting off Mohd Zul Khaire Haji Mohd Salleh who was in full speed before restricting him to a long range attempt.

With little to aim at Atifuddin, who had completely missed the goal with a wayward shot, produced a much better attempt in his next opportunity from a difficult angle but Pengiran Mohd Muizzuddin dived down for the save.

The police side momentarily found themselves in a two versus one situation but unfortunately Muhd Hafriz Hazman misplaced his pass before Zakeus collected and Atifuddin performing his defensive duties with a timely clearance.

However, MS PDB broke the deadlock which was initiated through a fine play by the effectual Zakeus with the move perfectly ended with Awangku Muhammad Amiruddin Pengiran Jamaludin belting his shot into the bulging net.

The MS PDB dugout erupted into delirium and with reason as they deservedly captured the lead after close brushes to goal.

Zakeus nearly capped his fine performance with a diving header but his attempt flew wide after receiving a good cross from Mohd Saiful Rizal Haji Awang.

The near miss nearly showed the miniscule difference of pulling away for comfort to the game being back all square as in the other end Esmendy intelligently found space but sliced his shot marginally wide having taken aim of the bottom corner.

Najip were far from being beset with a shortage of chances as substitute Abdul Azim bin Abdul Rahman became the latest player to find the difficulty of surpassing Pengiran Muizzuddin.

The aura of invincibility for Pengiran Muizzuddin behind the sticks was finally lost as Mohd Faiz Farhan drilled a looping header into the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Wijaya FC continued their good form in a five-goal thriller after a 3-2 win over Kota Ranger FC at the Tutong Sports Complex.
