To commemorate the World Autism Awareness Day 2016 that falls on April 2, more than 150 people from all walks of life participated in the 'Dance and Shine a Light on Autism' event, co-organised by Fitness Zone and Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) on Friday evening.
Some 20 athletes from SOBD and the Special Olympics Young Athletes team took part in the sweat-and-fun event accompanied by music.
In a show of unity, parents and friends of the athletes also joined in the fun-filled fitness moves.
Matching to the theme of this year's World Autism Awareness Day, 'Light it up Blue', members of Fitness Zone and the public were encouraged to turn up in blue-toned attire.
The theme aims to spread awareness of autism, celebrate and honor the unique talents and skills of people with autism and bring attention to the needs of people with autism.
Wu Chun, Managing Director of Fitness Zone, said, "Our team always see to it that we are able to pay attention and reach out to different communities here in Brunei."
"People with disabilities have great undiscovered abilities, they just need an extended caring hand and that is what this event is all about - to show that we support them and they are not alone shining their lights."
Ramon Rapi, Customer Care Manager of Fitness Zone and Volunteer Head Coach of SOBD Adaptive Fitness Team commented, "This is one of the most meaningful events I've been part of.
"Everyone has shared the same love for music and exercise, which does not discriminate disabilities and limitations."
The health club expressed gratitude to Kingston Beverage & Creamery Sendirian Berhad, La Vi Da and Shooting Stars Brunei Basketball for their support to the event.
