A total of 19 volunteers from Religious Teachers University of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) took part in several community service activities at the Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) yesterday in Kiulap.

The event saw several community service activities conducted including teaching the children of KACA the basics of Jawi script (Huruf Jawi), spelling basic and simple words, colouring competition as well as other beneficial activities.

Dayang Nurfaezah binti Awang Jasni, a chairperson for the volunteers group of KUPU SB said, "The visit is one of our assignments which is included in the course and we choose KACA because we want to help them and teach them on basic Islamic religious knowledge as well as to expose them to the public so that it can attract more volunteers to help and teach the children especially in learning Jawi."

Awang Haji Abdul Alim bin Haji Othman, the Managing Director of KACA in his speech expressed his appreciation to the volunteers from KUPU SB as well as other volunteers that have contributed to the centre and hoped to see the volunteers work continuously in the future.

"There are 530 members of KACA throughout the country and we need the young generation to assist us (senior citizens) in doing charitable activities," he said.

He also shared that among the activities, which involved KACA are walkathon which is being held today at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas and KACA sports which will be held on April 23 at KACA in Belait District.

Apart from teaching the children Jawi script, a colouring competition of Jawi script was also held to further enhance their skills in colouring and remembering what they have learnt during the session.

In addition, the event also aimed to strengthen and closer the ties between the children of KACA and the volunteers from KUPU SB.
