His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented for the Second Meeting of the 22nd Session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) to commence on Monday, 19 Safar 1448, corresponding to August 3, 2026, at the LegCo Building at Jalan Dewan Majlis.
According to a press statement, the Second Meeting will focus on parliamentary matters including questions, Ministerial Statements and Motions, to deliberate on a wide range of matters of national importance.
The meeting is expected to consider various policy, governance and national development issues in line with current priorities, with the aim of supporting the continued progress and well-being of Brunei Darussalam.
Speaker of the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib will chair the meeting, supported by Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah.
LegCo members, comprising ex-officio members, appointed members, titled individuals, distinguished achievers, and district representatives, are expected to examine matters presented in front of the session. Through orderly and prudent debate, LegCo members will contribute constructive views and ideas when deliberating on issues of importance to the people and the nation.
The LegCo is the nation’s highest legislative institution, serving as a forum for the debate, scrutiny, and deliberation of policies, legislation, and matters of national importance.
The LegCo Session reflects the practice of consultation in the country’s system of governance, where views and expertise from members of diverse backgrounds are brought together to support the government of His Majesty, in strengthening governance, advancing national development, and preserving the peace, stability, prosperity and well-being of Brunei Darussalam. – JAMES KON
