DPMM FC head coach Jamie McAllister’s decision to introduce Dalberto Luan Belo and Oscar Alexander Santis Cayax as second-half substitutes paid off, with both players scoring to secure a 3-1 victory over Negeri Sembilan FC in the Malaysia Super League at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas on Friday.
In the afternoon fixture, DPMM FC came close to opening the scoring in the second minute when Miguel Angelo Agostinho Oliveira beat goalkeeper Syahmi Adib Haikal Mohd Shukri, but his effort rebounded off the post.
Ten minutes later, DPMM FC broke the deadlock through top scorer Jordan David Murray, whose well-placed header looped over the advancing Negeri Sembilan FC goalkeeper and into the net.
Despite falling behind, Negeri Sembilan FC continued to dictate the pace with their fluid passing and attacking play. A well-worked move from midfield allowed Luqman Hakim Shamsudin to restore parity in the 34th minute with a powerful strike past DPMM FC goalkeeper Muhammad Haimie Abdullah Nyaring. After the break, both sides created several scoring opportunities but were unable to convert their chances.
Dalberto Luan Belo came on in the 74th minute and quickly made his presence felt, adding fresh impetus to DPMM FC’s attack.
His impact was rewarded in the 88th minute when he unleashed a powerful strike from outside the penalty area, beating Syahmi Adib Haikal Mohd Shukri to put DPMM FC back in front.
Introduced during stoppage time, Oscar Alexander Santis Cayax made an immediate impact, finding the net within a minute to extend DPMM FC’s lead after receiving a well-timed pass from Dalberto Luan Belo.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, DPMM FC head coach Jamie McAllister said, “I felt that we were not at our best in the first half and we gave away the ball easily. I was actually thinking of making several changes at half-time, but I said to the team that we are better than how we played in the first half and that we had to be more aggressive in the second half. We created so many chances after the break and were more aggressive.”
He added, “The substitutes came on and made an impact on the game. We have to be careful because Dalberto Luan Belo has an issue with his calf and is not 100 per cent.” – James Kon
