Five babies born in the Belait District on July 15 received gifts as part of celebrations marking the 80th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The presentation ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Theatre Hall of Block R, Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, with Datin Zubaidah binti Haji Mahmud, wife of the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, attending as guest of honour.
She was accompanied by Siti Ainun Jariah binti Haji Mohd Jaafar, wife of the Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Also present were officers and staff from Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Ministry of Home Affairs representatives, as well as representatives from Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) and Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd.
During the ceremony, Datin Zubaidah presented gift hampers containing essential items for the newborns and their mothers. The gifts were contributed by the National Committee for His Majesty’s 80th Birthday Celebrations.
TAIB also contributed baby essentials hampers worth BND60 and BND200 cash contributions, which were deposited into each baby’s Simanja Account.
Meanwhile, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and its subsidiaries provided each newborn with a Pelan Takaful Siswa (Student Takaful Plan) valued at BND240, providing one year of coverage.
Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) also opened savings accounts for each baby born on July 15, with an initial deposit of BND250 to support their financial future from birth.
The ceremony concluded with the recital of Dikir Marhaban.
A total of 22 babies were born nationwide on July 15, including 15 at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, two at Jerudong Park Medical Centre, and five in the Belait District.
