His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) in a sabda delivered at the National Flag Handover Ceremony for the Brunei Darussalam contingent to the 4th Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 in Senegal called on all national athletes in Brunei Darussalam, both junior and senior, together with their coaches and national sports associations to constantly work harder and strive for excellence to qualify for the competitions.

Priority and focus should be placed on achieving qualification through the proper qualification process, rather than relying solely on universality quota places for either the Summer Youth Olympic Games or the Summer Olympic Games.

His Royal Highness commended national wushu athlete Lauren Emily Chua who gained qualification to compete on the Taolu event of Taijishan and Taijiquan at the 4th Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.

His Royal Highness also urged athletes participating in the 4th Olympic Games Dakar 2026 to compete with confidence, unwavering dedication, strong determination and a high level of sporting spirit and to take advantage of the opportunity and trust that have been given to display abilities and best performance to bring glory to Brunei Darussalam in the international stage.

His Royal Highness also reminded athletes that participation in the 4th Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 is an honour and an invaluable experience considering that the Youth Olympic Games is the world’s largest sporting event for young athletes, organised by IOC.

Despite the national contingent has listed only one female athlete, His Royal Highness said, “Her participation is very important as this shows the continuous committee of the country in supporting the involvement of women in sport inclusively and the catalyst of empowering women in the future.”
