The Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Syariah Affairs Department has informed that the Halal Food Control Division, through the authority granted by Islamic Religious Council of Brunei has revoked the Halal Certificate under Section 6 (3), the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005 for R.M.S Ice Cream Ventures located in Kampung Kilanas, and involving four vehicles with immediate effect.
The cancellation of the Halal Certificate and Halal Supervisor Certificate was the result of routine monitoring carried out by the Enforcement Officer of the Halal Food Control Division on the holders of the Halal Certificate and Permit of the Islamic Religious Council of Brunei. During monitoring conducted at the premise, enforcement officers found a brush made of pig bristles that had been used in the process of preparing the ice cream cones sold from the vehicles. The brush's dubious status was confirmed through laboratory analysis conducted by the Scientific Services Department, Ministry of Health.
The case is being investigated under the Halal Certification and Halal Label Order, 2005 and, if convicted, will be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding BND8,000 or both.
