BEDOK STADIUM, SINGAPORE

DPMM FC climbed to third place in the S League at least for 24 hours following a 1-1 draw over Geylang International FC at the Bedok Stadium in Singapore last night.

The result opened the door for fourth-placed Home United who are in action today to leapfrog the reigning holders and go two points clear.

The hosts enjoyed an ideal start after former Levante youth product Roberto Camarasa planted a firm header from a Sahil Suhaimi delivery in the 5th minute.

With the visiting defence unable to clear their lines, DPMM FC goalkeeper Wardun Yussof prevented adversity after stopping Shawal Anuar from making further strides.

With Sahil Suhaimi one of the players returning to domestic football following international duty in Japan, the influential forward attempted a 25-yard effort which skewed wide.

DPMM FC's defender Brian McLean came to the rescue with a crucial block  after Stanely Ng looked certain to score.

Maududi Hilmi Kasmi knocked down the ball for Azwan Salleh but the latter's shot from the edge of the box was too weak to trouble Geylang's goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari.

DPMM FC's captain Rosmin Kamis found space but flashed his effort just wide off the right-hand post.

Ng delivered a precise cross into the box but Sahil fired his effort wide as the hosts went in search for a second goal.

The visitors pegged back in the 71st minute after substitute Azwan Ali drilled a fine equaliser having combined well with fellow substitute Shahrazen Said.

The Eagles had experienced defender Daniel Bennett to thank for after reacting to chaos in the box by making a clearance.

Gabriel Quak flew in a good corner but Anders Eric Aplin's header went straight to Wardun.

Meanwhile at the Jurong East Stadium, Albirex Niigata (S) opened up a four-point gap at the summit after an emphatic 4-0 win over struggling Garena Young Lions.
