Brunei badminton player Jaspar Yu Woon Chai made history after making his first competitive appearance at the Rio Olympics in a straight set 21-16 21-15 defeat at the hands of Hong Kong's Hu Yun in the Group 'D' men's singles at the Pavilion 4, Riocentro yesterday.
The national shuttler saved four match points in the decisive set after his opponent has threatened to win by a bigger margin than the first set.
The world number 12 managed a shot which clipped the line before executing a perfect cross court slice leaving Jaspar grounded at the turf in match point.
However, Jaspar recovered briefly after Hu's game was littered with erratic shots coupled with a fine slice but it was all over minutes later with the former raking a first victory.
Jaspar will return to action in his final group game against Spain's Pablo Abian today at 7.30am.
