The majority of voters are expected to cast their votes early in the Johor state election to avoid congestion, says Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pic).

The former Johor mentri besar - who is voting in the Permas constituency where he was assemblyman from 2013-2018 - added that he was also feeling positive about a Barisan Nasional victory.

“The public will use this chance to avoid congestion (among last-minute voters) and I have also come early to vote today so that I can go and see the voting process at other places," he told reporters after ariving to cast his ballot at SK Taman Rinting 1 here shortly after 8am on Saturday (March 12).

Asked who he would be voting for, Khaled only laughed and pointed to the shirt he was wearing.

“Look at the blue colour of my shirt. Is this Barisan blue or Perikatan Nasional blue,” he said before entering the polling station.

Meanwhile, SK Taman Rinting 1 polling station manager Mohd Ghazali Hamat said there were eight channels at the station for an anticipated 4,723 registered voters.

The Permas seat is seeing a five-cornered fight among Baharudin Mohamed Taib (Barisan), Tazul Arifin (Perikatan), Mahaya Ahad (Parti Pejuang Tanah Air), Syed Othman Syed Abdullah (Pakatan Harapan) and Mohamed Ridza Busu (Parti Warisan).
