Almost 4,000 residents living in areas that are considered as critical areas of Taal Volcano eruption in Batangas have been evacuated since the volcano was placed under Alert Level 3 status.
Based on the data released by the Philippine National Police (PNP), the 3,813 individuals from more than 1,000 families are now staying in 13 evacuation centers in the towns of Laurel, Balete and Agoncillo.
In Agoincillo, a total of 1,994 residents were evacuated while 1,261 residents from Laurel town were already transported to the evacuation centers. A total of 558 individuals were also evacuated in Balete town.
Police, however, said that they expect the number of evacuees to increase if the Tall Volcano continue to erupt in the coming days.
The Provincial Government of Batangas has prepared more than 2,000 evacuation centers in January 2020 when the Tall Volcano first erupted. So far, only 13 of them were occupied.
All the residents of the Volcano Island were also given permanent housing after the entire island was declared as no man’s land in 2020.
