The Minister of Health also explained that the WHO has issued recommendations to all countries to administer the COVID-19 vaccination to children aged 5 to 11.
Yang Berhormat said that the Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety, GACVS has concluded that for all ages including children, the benefits derived from the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine in reducing the need for hospital treatment and death from COVID-19 far outweigh the risks of the vaccine. Studies conducted in several countries specifically on the serious side effects of the COVID-19 vaccination on children aged 5 to 11 did not find any serious side effects or deaths directly linked to the vaccination. Moreover to date, no cases of myocarditis after the COVID-19 vaccination for children under 12 years of age have been reported worldwide. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, VAERS in the United States which is the world's largest database system for monitoring vaccine side effects has confirmed 11 case reports of side effects among 8 million doses of vaccine that have been given to children aged 5 to 11.
In another vaccine safety surveillance system, no cases of myocarditis were reported within 1 to 21 days or 1 to 42 days after 333,000 doses of vaccine were given to children aged 5 to 11. Meanwhile, the two reported childhood deaths that occurred in the United States after receiving the Pfizer Bio-N-Tech COVID-19 vaccine were among children with several chronic health problems. Preliminary studies have found that their deaths cannot be attributed to the vaccine.
