BERAKAS

200 trees were planted in the Berakas Forest Reserve. The initiative is in line with the country's target in realizing two strategies, namely Forest Coverage, and Brunei Darussalam's National Climate Change Policy where Brunei Darussalam intends to plant 500,000 new trees by 2035.

Activities under the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator Training Programme with support from the Forestry Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism are organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the National Disaster Management Centre.

Among the trees planted are Keruing Sindor, Mang, Resak Durian and Meranti Langgai. Such events are held as an initiative that supports the ministry's commitment to green protocols and as an effort in fostering awareness in improving disaster preparedness such as landslides.

Awangku Muhammad Naaim Syafi Bin Pengiran Haji Besman, Disaster Management Officer said initiatives to achieve the country's aspiration to a resilient nation is through the improvement of public well-being and also the improvement of public preparedness.  Among the initiatives implemented under the disaster management centre is to conduct Disaster Preparedness Coordinator programme training where selected individuals will be trained to help governments to act in disaster management before, after and during a disaster occurred.
