PANGKALAN BATU

Paddy planting using high yield variety seeds is the main strategy of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism in efforts to increase rice yield per hectare. In line with the ministry's mission and vision, a Doa Selamat ceremony was held yesterday morning at the Wasan Agriculture Development Area in conjunction with the Handover of Titih Paddy Seedlings for the Titih Paddy Planting Pioneer Project.

The seedlings were handed over by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism to farmers from Koperasi Setia Kawan, KOSEKA Berhad. Titih paddy is a hybrid variety from a collaborative project between the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood and Sunland Agritech from the Republic of Singapore. The variety is expected to produce an average yield of rice of 6 to 8 metric tonnes per hectare per season.
