Post-Budget 2023 Best Time To Hold GE15, Says Tok Mat

 June 14th, 2022  |  12:28 PM  |   693 views

PETALING JAYA

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who has been pushing for an early 15th General Election, says the best time for GE15 would be after Budget 2023 in October.

"Of course, the budget must have the 'wow' factor which reflects on the work done by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

"Since we are going for the election, the budget must be done well as people will say it is Ismail's budget, an Umno or Barisan (Nasional) budget," Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying on Tuesday (June 14).

Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, said it was fine to hold GE15 before the budget, but there will be no political mileage.

He had earlier pushed for election in June, after the landslide win by Barisan in the Johor state election, which came on the heels of the win in Melaka.

"We acknowledge that the government and party are two different entities and the Prime Minister needs to consider other factors such as the MoU with the Opposition.

Hasan said the Opposition's big tent approach will not work as its motive was merely to oust the Barisan government.
