Mesut Ozil: Arsenal Doubters Proved Wrong With Chelsea Performance

Mesut Ozil scored Arsenal's third against Chelsea.

Mesut Ozil says Arsenal proved their critics wrong with their display in the 3-0 win against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Gunners scored three goals inside the game's opening 40 minutes as they recorded their first victory over their London rivals since 2011.

Arsenal started the Premier League season slowly, picking up just one point from their first two matches, but having now recorded four league wins in a row, Ozil believes they are progressing well.

"Many so-called experts had already written us off after the second matchday," Ozil told Goal. "But a Premier League season is long and we're currently improving from game to game.

"In the first half we played exactly the kind of football we want to play -- quick combinations so that our opponents didn't even get the chance to tackle."

Arsenal next face Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday and Ozil says it is vital they produce a similar display to that of the Chelsea game.

"All the more, we have proved now that this wasn't a one-off and we'll have to perform equally as well against Basel," he said. "If our fans support us on Wednesday like they did today we'll be in the best conditions to play."
