BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Brunei Darussalam continue to experience good air quality with no transboundary smoke haze for the past year. However, the dry season is not over yet and due to climate change, it could prolong the period of drier conditions. Thus, the Minister of Development urged all Ministerial Steering Committee, MSC countries to intensify their efforts and move forward for a pragmatic solution to solve the haze problem.

Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, stated the matter at the 23rd Meeting of the Sub-Regional Ministerial Steering Committee on Transboundary Haze Pollution through Video Conference. The Meeting was also attended by ministers and representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand as well as the ASEAN Secretary-General. The Meeting noted the information on the review and outlook of weather and smoke haze situation presented by the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre, ASMC. The MSC countries reaffirmed their readiness to provide assistance such as deployment of technical resources for firefighting assistance. The Meeting also recognised the effects of climate change and other extreme weather and agreed on the importance of taking strong action for preventive measures. The 24th MSC Meeting will be held in Singapore in 2023.
