Under Section 11 of the Infectious Diseases Act, Chapter 204, it is an offence for any person who donates blood or blood products in the country to give false and misleading information and can be fined not exceeding $20,000, imprisonment of not more than 2 years or both. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health stated the matter in an interview during the large scale Blood Donation Campaign yesterday MORNING, in conjunction with World Blood Donor Day 2022. The event organised by the Blood Donation Centre, Department of Laboratory Services was held at Dewan Al-'Afiah, Ministry of Health.

 

The Minister of Health said a unit of blood can save 3 people. However, donors are reminded to maintain their health especially from non-communicable diseases to ensure that they are able to donate.

The campaign's main objective this time around is to stress and highlight the safety of the donated blood to help individuals requiring blood transfusions and at the same time saving lives. The campaign also aimed to disseminate to the public on the Infectious Diseases Act in relation to blood donation.
