Nunukan, KN – Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Deddy Yefry Hanteru Sitorus emphasized that the border area is no longer a backyard but is Indonesia's front line.

This was revealed when attending a ceremony to commemorate the 77th Indonesian Independence at the Integrated State Border Post (PLBN), Pancang Village, North Sebatik, Nunukan, Wednesday (17/8).

To the media crew, Deddy admitted that since he was inaugurated as a Member of the Indonesian Parliament in October 2019 it was indeed the first time he had been able to attend the National Day Ceremony in Kaltara.

“Indeed, this is my first time attending the Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony in Kaltara. This is because after I was inaugurated, the Covid-19 pandemic occurred which caused many activities, including the commemoration of the Indonesian Independence Day, to be held openly," he explained.

His presence at the Indonesian Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony in Sebatik this time, said Deddy, was not without reason. But because he wants to ensure the Government's commitment in developing areas on the border.

“Why is a ceremony like this very important and I am trying to attend it, because I want to ensure the Government's commitment in encouraging the acceleration of development at the Border. Because the border is no longer the backyard but the front yard of the Republic of Indonesia," he explained.

When talking about the condition of people in the border areas, such as Sebatik, which still depend on blood and other countries for basic needs, Deddy Sitorus said that the concept of development from the periphery initiated by President Jokowi was very appropriate.

"The Jokowi government has done a lot in overcoming the dependence of border residents on basic commodities to other regions. Among them by building 4 PLBN, one of which is in Sebatik, "he explained.

Another effort from the government, said Deddy, will soon be building an industrial area and an international port. In addition, the Kayan hydropower plant and the Mentarang hydropower plant will also be built and this will be a driver of the welfare of the people in the border.
