A girlfriend has been left perplexed by her boyfriend’s disappointing Christmas presents.

The 21-year-old, who posted about the story on Reddit, said she already ‘had a feeling’ she wouldn’t like the presents her boyfriend, 24, got for her – and it turns out, she was right.

When she opened her presents on Christmas day, the poster realised her boyfriend had completely missed the mark, buying her a giant, life-size cutout of an anime character and a makeup palette.

‘The first gift just kinda blew my mind,’ she wrote.

‘I’ve never once hinted that this would be something I’m interested in, nor have I ever directly mentioned/said anything about liking the character.’

The makeup palette, she said, was ‘alright’ – but she rarely wears make up.

‘It feels like he assumed I would enjoy this stuff when I don’t,’ she continued.

‘I don’t wear makeup often and I’m not fond of random things that could freak me out [like the cutout].’

It turned out the anime cut out may have been inspired by a poster that belonged to the girlfriend’s ex.

‘[My ex] was a fan of the character and I was just left with a poster I had bought for him,’ she explains.

The woman didn’t know what to say when she opened her gifts, so texted her friend for advice — but her boyfriend read the message.

‘Now he’s just giving me the silent treatment even after I explained that I felt [bad] telling him I didn’t like the things he bought me,’ she said.

‘I know I should be grateful but I went to lengths for his gift and it feels like he didn’t listen to anything I’ve been saying.’

‘He had to make a guess then and spoiler: humans aren’t mind readers. If you are so picky, help people and tell them what you want.

‘Also if you have a poster of something people usually assume you like that.

‘I mean honestly why would someone ever have a poster of something hanging they don’t like and that they got for an ex? It’s just a poster not a Picasso.’

Another user, spookobsessedscot, said: ‘If you’ve only been together three months, and he had noticed the poster in the room then it shows he had been observant enough to try to get you something that you like.

‘Yes in a perfect world he would’ve asked your friends/family, but you guys are still early in your relationship.

‘I get that you’re disappointed, but I can also see why he would feel hurt.’

However, others thought the boyfriend should have been more proactive in figuring out what to buy for his girlfriend.

‘Those are very weird and unpractical gifts,’ wrote holyfreakingshittake.

Another person, myrianreadit, said: ‘If you’ve been talking to him about the things you wanted and he got you something totally different and random, he knew this would be a possibility… he’s being childish giving you the silent treatment now.

‘That’s also really ungrateful of him after you went to the trouble of getting him stuff he actually wanted, too.’

Fleet_and_flotilla agreed: ‘This is a three month relationship.

‘I don’t care what she had hanging on her wall.

‘This dude is capable of communicating and should have asked.’
