Local Man Guilty of Corruption

Bandar Seri Begawan

 

A local man who is a former Brunei Shell Petroleum, BSP personnel who held the position of Main Warehouse Supervisor at the Service, Service, Transport and Logistics, STL Department was found guilty by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court for 26 charges under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131 and are punishable under Section 7(1) of the same Act.

 

Mohamad Faisal bin Haji Ismail, was found guilty for corruptly received gratification a sum amounting to 52, 695 dollars from Thomas Ling, a salesman at Musfada Enterprise, which is a contract vendor under BSP, between January 2008 to August 2009, for approving the Material Requisition for various products that were supplied by Musfada Enterprise, and asked the STL Department's employees to create Work Order and signed Delivery Notes to confirm receipt of the products.

 

The Magistrate court judge sentenced the defendant to 6 years imprisonment for each charge which is to be served concurrently starting on the 1st of March 2017. The court also ordered the defendant to pay a penalty amounting to 52 thousand 695 dollars within 6 months as well as prosecution cost of 200 thousand dollars within 3 months. In default of payment, the defendant is to serve additional 9 months imprisonment.
