The Deputy Minister of Education, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, yesterday remarked that excellent and consistent results produced by private-run schools have complemented the nationwide improvement of education quality and public examination achievements.
During a ceremony held at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)'s Chancellor Hall to reward a total of 521 outstanding students nationwide who excelled in public examinations in 2015, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom in his speech also said this has helped generate more high-potential and bright local students in different fields for the country.
He later mentioned the Ministry of Education's (MoE) two ambitious initiatives that serve as a catalyst towards reaching one of the core goals in Brunei Vision 2035 - the generation of highly educated and skilled people.
The Primary School Initiative (IPR), aims to achieve 90 per cent grade A to C for students sitting for the Primary School Assessment (PSR) examination, and the Secondary School 'initiative (IPM) aims for at least 60 per cent credits in the GCE 'O' Level examination by 2017.
Towards achieving this target, he said a number of collaboration efforts have been made, including the sharing of best-practices in teaching and learning between the Jerudong International School (JIS) and government school teachers.
The deputy minister later said he hopes to see bigger and closer collaboration between private and government schools, towards improving the academic achievements of students in the country as a whole.
He later called on private-run schools and institutions to continuously adhere to regulations and acts stipulated by the MoE, at the same time meeting the standards set by relevant authority bodies to enable them to expand and grow their programmes and activities efficiently and successfully.
"Private school operators must also ensure that the optimal delivery of quality education services and school management so the National Education Policy can be effectively implemented and will reach its targets, in line with the Education Act Chapter 210," he added.
He later called on all school leaders and teachers to continuously enhance the quality of teaching and learning in their respective schools, by providing programmes that can bring constant positive impacts in maximising the potential of students.
