KIGS Hosted Entrepreneur Workshop

KIULAP, BRUNEI-MUARA

Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) yesterday hosted a one-day entrepreneur workshop entitled 'Young Minds, Big Change' that featured two successful young entrepreneurs from the college, namely, Hiro Thien and King Seh Hong as speakers and facilitators.

Head of Administration and Human Resource, Awang Haji Affendi bin Haji Mohd Salleh also spoke of his previous working experience dealing with Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) development in Brunei Darussalam.

He said the SMEs which are defined as enterprises employing between six to 100 employees constitute around 48 per cent of all business establishments, while 50 per cent of all businesses are made up of micro enterprises that by definition have between one and five employees.

He added that SMEs can be found in various sectors. The Brunei Government continues to place greater emphasis on the development of SMEs because they have been identified as major players in industrial development, significantly contribute to the nation's economy and have strong growth potentials with the emergence of young minds in particular, he added.

The country, he said, is continuously working on whatever means to chart the future direction of SMEs to become even more effective and dynamic such as developing their financial skills and helping them to access regional and international markets.

He expressed confidence that with the presence of the college's two successful young entrepreneurs, the students could gain better insight and understanding on the best practices that both of them have implemented in their respective businesses.
