BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A 27-year-old local woman was ordered to settle a fine of $4,000 in monthly instalments of $500 after pleading guilty to possessing smuggled cigarettes. She has to serve six months' jail in default of payment.

Siti Nurul Diana binti Anuar was caught in possession of 13 cartons of cigarettes in her car on arrival at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 4.45pm on November 28, 2013.

She did not declare the cigarettes and a Customs examiner found the cigarettes hidden in and around the defendant's car.

Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman ordered for the forfeiture of the cigarettes and the seized vehicle to be returned.
