Two teams of student delegates from Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) participated in Hwa Chong Model United Nations (HMUN) Conference 2016 organised by the Hwa Chong International School in Singapore, from March 14-16.
Team 1 comprises Liu Jia Hui, Alai Syafina binti Muhammad Haafizh Shah, Lim Mei Lin, Ngu Kah Shin, Kon Thian Enn, whereas Team 2 is made up of Chua Yi En, Sai Saranya, Lee Wan Sze, Sarah Yasmin binti Hilman and Josephine Wong Tshin Huei.
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is a student-led conference in which students acting as delegates to the United Nations engage in simulation of UN committee debates.
The HMUN 2016 took place over three days. On the first two days, each council committee engaged in heated debates on the issues raised. On the third and final day, all committees came together to present their resolutions from their councils to be judged for the best resolution paper.
During the conference, students not only took part in intense debates and thoughtful discussions, but also occasional jokes that lighten up the mood.
HMUN is a great learning experience, as students are given the chance to sharpen speaking skills, acquire research abilities, and gain a deeper insight on current world issues as well as the United Nations.
All student delegates look forward to the opportunity to share what they have learned in Singapore by organising and running their very own Model United Nations for Chung Hwa Middle School students, otherwise known as CMUN, in the upcoming September holidays.
