BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) is expected to launch its authentic learning centres in July this year.

This was revealed by Dr. Sheikh Lukrnan bin Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Principal of IBTE Central in his speech at the IBTE Bedagang 2016 opening ceremony.

"With the new approach to competency-based assessment, the school believes this will have a positive impact on teaching and learning. By planning lessons beyond a traditional classroom setting, a whole new level of understanding and relevant learning will be embarked," he said.

"We want to create competency-based and authentic learning. Therefore we have embarked on three authentic learning centres, namely the IBTE Business Campus; IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus, which is the school of ICT as well as the ICT branch at the IBTE Jefri Bolkiah Campus in Kuala Belait," said Dr. Chin Wei Keh, Director of Technical Education/Chief Executive Officer of IBTE, during an interview yesterday on the sidelines of the IBTE Bedagang 2016 opening ceremony.

"We have committed to develop our curriculum from a very theoretical base to a very practical oriented curriculum. Therefore we .need areas for students to develop their skills to ensure that graduates understand how to react in the real world," he said.

For the business school, Dr. Chin revealed "up to 50 to 60 per cent of the curriculum is linked to the learning practices of the authentic learning centre".
