The Indian community here has appealed to the State government to hasten the approval of a piece of land for the construction of a temple.

The matter was raised at the recent State MIC meeting here and its chairman, Datuk V Jothi, gave a commitment to bring it up to the relevant authority.

The application for the land was submitted several years ago but had yet to be approved.

“I fully support their application because there is quite a big number of Indians in Lahad Datu,” Jothi said.

Also deliberated at the meeting was a request for Indians who have resided in Lahad Datu for many years to be granted permanent resident status.

Jothi said some of the Indians in Lahad Datu have been in Sabah for more than 20 years and have contributed significantly to the state’s development.

During the meeting, Jothi called on the Indian community to continue to solidly support the government.

“Both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman have been doing a good job and deserve our continued support,” he said.
