BANGKOK, THAILAND
The government is warning restaurants and tourism business operators they face legal action if they refuse to issue a tax invoice for customers taking part in the government's tax break campaign during Songkran.
The government is allowing Thais to deduct expenses for dining and tourism against taxes of up to 15,000 baht from Saturday until April 17.
The measure is part of an economic stimulus that seeks to boost domestic spending.
Government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the public complained some major restaurant chains had refused to issue a tax invoice during the same period last year.
Some operators told customers their quotas for tax deductions were exhausted, while resorts which refused claimed they were out of invoices.
