The Museums Department is currently holding the Regatta Exhibition in conjunction with the Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2016 that was held on August 21.
The exhibition which has been conducted annually by the department for the past five years aims to disseminate information on regatta races in Brunei and Borneo; foster the spirit of sportsmanship in regattas; instill interest to improve the performance of local sports regionally and internationally; and to promote the importance of health care through sports.
The exhibition is held for two weeks from August 21-September 9 at the Art Gallery, Dermaga Diraja in the capital.
The exhibition will then move and be held for three months from September 13 to December 13 at the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Museum in Jalan Kota Batu.
The exhibition, themed 'Friendship through Borneo Regatta' has seven panels, including highlights on the involvement of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in regatta races from 2011 to 2015. It also shows the visits of His Majesty to the Sarawak and Baram Regattas from 2012-2015.
The exhibition also highlights some of the regattas held in Borneo such as Brunei Darussalam, Limbang, Sabah and Kota Kinabalu.
Another exhibit shows the involvement of private companies in organising and participating in regattas in Borneo. The participation of TelBru Boat Racing Team in regattas in Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak is also highlighted.
Another exhibit shows the participation of government bodies in the regattas in Borneo such as in Brunei Darussalam and also in Sabah and Sarawak. This panel highlights the success of the Sports Council of the previous Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, who won several championships in boat racing events.
There is also an exhibit focusing on the involvement of the public and foreign participants. It emphasises the success of paddlers from the Brunei National Boat Racing Association (PERKEBAR) and other teams. Also on display are rowing clothing and equipment.
